BOTOX Cosmetic has become synonymous with wrinkle reduction and facial rejuvenation, offering smoother, younger-looking skin for millions of people each year. This popular nonsurgical treatment has rightly secured its foothold as a household name, but how much do you really know about this neuromodulator?

Did you know there are several other toxins such as Xeomin and Dysport that offer similar results to BOTOX Cosmetic.  Botox Cosmetic still has  brand name recognition.

If you’re wondering “how many units of BOTOX do I need?” or trying to calculate how many units of BOTOX you’ll need for your forehead, we’ve put together a quiz to help you estimate your needs. But first, let’s cover some common treatment areas for BOTOX.

Where Can BOTOX Be Used?

As a purified form of botulinum toxin, BOTOX Cosmetic temporarily weakens the facial muscles by interrupting the signals telling them to contract. As a result, wrinkles caused by making facial expressions will smooth out.

The FDA approves BOTOX to treat crow’s feet, frown lines (your 11s or glabellar lines), and horizontal forehead lines. However, it can also be safely used off-label by a qualified medical professional, such as a board-certified dermatologist, to treat additional cosmetic concerns like:

  • Vertical lip lines
  • Bunny lines on the bridge of the nose
  • Dimpled or orange peel-textured skin on the chin
  • Vertical platysmal neck bands and horizontal neck lines or “tech neck”
  • Jawline definition
  • Overdeveloped masseter muscles

BOTOX has other surprising uses besides wrinkle reduction—learn more in our related blog post. (Hint: migraine headaches and excessive sweating)

Take Our Quiz

Now that you know where this injectable is commonly used, it’s time to learn more about how many units of BOTOX are needed per area to achieve your desired look.

How did you do? While these are generally accepted guidelines, the amount of BOTOX you need will be tailored to your individual anatomy, the extent of desired correction, and how many areas you’d like to treat. If you are consistent with your treatments, you may need less product to achieve the same results in follow-up sessions!
